Dr. McLeod,
I have followed your research and that of others that links chromium deficiency with impairment of memory and concentration. I tried chromium, and like George in your book (Lifting Your Depression), it helped me focus and think clearly. How does chromium help memory and concentration?

ANSWER:
Dear J.B.
You will notice that I changed the wording of your question from, “How Does Chromium Help Memory and Concentration” to “How Might Chromium Help Memory and Concentration?” I changed the word “does” to “might” to emphasize that my observation –that chromium helps the mind work better – is suggestive but not conclusive. How might chromium “work” or in scientific language, what is the mechanism of action? Briefly here goes: chromium helps insulin “burn” the brain’s main source of energy, sugar (glucose), and make the energy necessary for the production of chemical messenges which regulate mood.
I hope this helps. Thank you
Malcolm N. McLeod, MD
